How is the domain brokerage process started?

- You tell us your desired domain and the amount you would like to pay for it. The amount has to be more than 500 USD, because domains go up in price, if they are already registered and in use. Therefore, we need a higher negotiation margin at the beginning.
- Within two working days we will check whether it seems possible to purchase your desired domain with the given budget. The following criteria influence the acceptance of an order: If your desired domain is a particularly high-value domain such as auto.de, for example, it cannot be purchased for a budget of 1,000 Euros, as the domain has a significantly higher market value.
- Domains that are projected, i.e. it can be assumed that the owner has already invested in the domain and the associated trademark, also require a higher budget. If you do not have any indication what your desired domain might actually be worth, we recommend ordering a domain value appraisal.
- From many years of experience, we already know domain owners who are domain investors, so we can assess from the outset whether the given budget can lead to successful negotiations or whether it should be increased.
These are only some of the criteria that are taken into account in the examination. If, however, the desired domain and the budget details match positively, or if only an adjustment of the budget is sufficient, we will accept the order and start with the next step of contacting you.
What happens during contact and negotiation?
Our mediation team consists of domain brokers who speak several languages and have many years of experience.
- First of all we research the owner. Depending on availability and insight into the owner data (also called Whois), we check whether the owner is known to us, which location he/she has and in which language he/she should be addressed, if necessary.
- The first attempt to contact the owner is made with the aim of finding out the owner's intention to sell and the price he/she is prepared to pay.
- Further contacts are made, if necessary with price offers, in order to arouse the owner's interest in the sale. Some owners initially refuse to sell, but can be persuaded.
- Depending on the willingness to sell, negotiations with the owner and consultation with you as the client may follow. We keep the negotiations completely transparent for you and never negotiate over your budget. You remain an anonymous client during the process.
- Agreement with the owner of the domain > Purchase of the domain > Preparation of the purchase contract > Initiation of the money and domain transfer (escrow service).
What does a domain brokerage cost?
- As soon as we have checked your order and confirmed that we will make a purchase attempt, 69 € (incl. VAT) will be due. If we exclude a purchase attempt right at the beginning, no costs are due.
- If there is an agreement with the domain owner, we will charge you the purchase price of the domain plus 15% commission (excl. VAT).
- If you subsequently wish the domain purchase and domain price to remain confidential, we will charge an additional fee of 2.5%.
How long does a domain mediation take?
The procedure described so far is the ideal and desirable way of domain mediation. Some domain mediations can be successfully completed within 24 hours after acceptance. Others, where there are unexpected complications, such as illness of the holder, can take up to a year or more. The chances of success in a domain brokerage can be well explained by the purchase of your dream property, which already has an owner:
You see your dream house during a walk, but it is already occupied and is not for sale. You nevertheless contact the owner of the house and do your best to convince him to sell the house to you. After a lot of back and forth, the owner calls a price that is utopian for you, because he is attached to the property and does not really want to sell it. Since the price quoted is not realizable for you, you break off the negotiations and look for an alternative. It is also possible that the owner moves after 6 months and then wants to sell the house at a reasonable price.
So the sooner you start trying to buy, the better you can plan your business around a domain name. In the best case the negotiations will be successful and you will get your desired domain. If no agreement can be reached, you have invested only 69 Euros and you have received the clarity that your business cannot be realized with your desired domain.
